Today marks the 68th anniversary of D-Day and we should take time out of our busy day to reflect on the huge sacrifice that so many paid in order to protect our freedom.
And whilst taking that moment, please spare a thought for those that have paid that same sacrifice in the current conflicts and for their families who now have to live with the results of that sacrifice.
Weymouth & Portland hosts a number of war memorials where respects can be paid, along Weymouth Seafront we have the British, Anzac and American memorials, so next time you walk along the seafront watch out for them and take time to reflect.
On Sunday 24th June Weymouth seafront will host the Veterans day parade and on the same day we will observe Armed Forces day, which is always very well supported and attended. Through the week of Saturday 23rd June – Friday 29th June 2012 is Veterans week here in Weymouth with many activities planned.
